FoodIn year 11 students design and
make their own project, in either Resistant Materials, Electronics,
Textiles or Food. They select a real need, investigate it in detail,
design a solution, plan and make their solution and evaluate it. This
project constitutes up to 60% of the final GCSE grade.
In the final two
terms of Year 11, students study for examinations in resistant materials,
electronics, textiles or food. The examinations provide the final 40% of
the GCSE grade.
Throughout the five years students’ work is marked against the National
Curriculum criteria of ability to design and make. These marks are used to
produce reports, measure students’ progress, determine sets and finally
generate the course work element of the GCSE grade.
Design and Technology enjoys a reputation for being interesting,
diverse, demanding and achieving very high results.
