In Years 7 - 9 all students experience physics,
chemistry and biology with some geology and ecology. These aspects are
taught in modules of approximately 9 weeks in length.
In Years 10 and 11 most students will follow a GCSE
modular course leading to a double certificate in science. The courses have proved to be a most effective
preparation for the three separate sciences at 'A' level - physics,
chemistry and biology. The course offered in Year 10 and 11 is AQA
modular. This comprises 12 modules - 4 chemistry, 4 biology and 4
physics. This will lead to a double award, i.e. 2 GCSE examinations.

The module tests are
multiple choice papers, 30 minutes in length and occur every term. Results
are returned to students so feedback is regular. We have found this to be
a great motivator.
The coursework is set
throughout the 2 year course and deadlines are set and need to be adhered
to. If a student is having difficulty meeting a deadline, he/she must talk
to us. If there is a real problem an extension will be granted. Guidelines
on how to complete coursework are made available to students and to
parents at reporting evenings. As preparation for the "terminal" exam,
students are given a detailed revision programme.
A Science surgery is always held after
college on a Monday to help solve any problems the students may have in
Science.
