Students are encouraged to take part in activities
which require thought, effort, observation, evaluation and a high level of
personal experience of movement. They will be given the opportunity to
gain a sense of satisfaction and achievement by working long enough and
hard enough to overcome the challenges presented by the practical work.
Key Stage 3
Students have two, one hour lessons a week and
participate in the following areas during years 7, 8 & 9: games,
gymnastics, dance, athletics and swimming.
Key Stage 4
Students have one hour lesson a week and are required
to develop their standard of performance in at least two activities
studied at Key Stage 3. Students are also given the opportunity to
experience activities that are not taught at KS3, e.g. tennis, and all
students are made aware of the benefits of relaxation techniques.
Students leaving college should have a sound knowledge
and understanding of what is required to lead a healthy and active
lifestyle.
Extra-Curricular Activities
A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered
during the year enabling all students to further their participation in
PE. Some activities lead to proficiency awards, some lead to college
teams and all are for personal enjoyment and achievement. Inter school
matches are organised and all students have the opportunity to be
considered for the college teams. Students also have the opportunity to
take part in competition organised within the College.
