Our GCSE course
for Art and Design provides further opportunity for the development of
understanding and practical experience of the role, purpose and function
of Art and Design in society. Throughout the course, students will be
introduced to a wide range of skills and techniques in 2 and 3
dimensional media. Core studies might include observation drawing,
painting, ceramics, graphic design, computer graphics, illustration,
textiles, fashion design, sculpture and a wide range of 3D work.
The study of Art and Design may be approached in many
different ways and students will be introduced to the skills and
strategies of 3 main areas:
Expressive Activity –
Programmes of work have been devised to promote students’ ability to
respond to a stimulus, theme or idea in a personal and expressive way.
Ideas, perceptions and feelings can be expressed in a variety of ways by
experimenting with materials and media and in the creative use of visual
language.
Design – Design
influences our lives as members of the community, as consumers and as
guardians of the environment. Our world is constantly changing and
learning through design based programmes of study can help students to
evaluate and shape our environment more creatively. In our Art and
Design course, students will come to understand the importance of the
visual aspects of design and recognise those areas which specifically
depend upon the techniques and approaches of the Visual Arts. |
